Ice Storm and Gas Station....

The title sums it up! What a "storm" it was. I could not believe the effect it left on NWA. Thousands of people are still out of electricity and it may be another WEEK before some regain electricity. Can you imagine? Thankfully, all of the ice has melted and it actually got up in the lower 60's today...Arkansas weather! Even though it was a terrible storm, the ice and snow made everything look so pretty! Here are a few pictures I took of my back yard, golf course and some trees around town.

look how thick the ice is!

these trees were so pretty

this was the prettiest tree, I pass it everyday on my way to work. Add Image the Hero's of the week!

No, this gas station was not hit by a tornado. However, the roof did collapse due to the weight on it from all the ice. One man was pumping gas when it collapsed, but thankfully he survived with minor injuries. I just happened to be pulling up to the traffic light that is adjacent to the gas station as the firetrucks and paramedics were pulling up, so I saw them pull the man out of the rubble. It was kind of scary to witness that!

I wanted to leave on a brighter note! Look at that sweet face!

I hope everyone had a great week! Please continue to keep the families with out electricity in your thoughts and prayers, as well as the men working diligently to restore power to them. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

It's Dark

That's right! Thanks to mother nature and the ever-so-friendly ice storm we, like 100,000 other NWAers, have no power!! Ahhh! I forget how much I rely on it until it is gone!

My day started off quite lovely actually. My boss sent me a text early this morning that said, "please don't come in to work, I don't want you to get stuck here" (I commute about 30 miles to work), so I was thinking great, a day off to relax!! My mom told me Josh and Jen were without power, but I was just SURE our power would stay on because we have underground electrical lines! Ha! What did I know?! I got in the shower and that's when the lights flickered and I started saying out loud, "Oh no! Please don't go off before I get my hair dried!!" Haha! So girly, I know! Well I did get it dried, but only dried. I didn't get to Chi it or poof it, because 2 hours later while I was watching my favorite show, HGTV Designers Challenge....FLICK....all the lights and TV went out!! That was at 2:25 pm!! We are still sitting in the dark!

My mom, my dad, and I got out of the house and went to eat dinner this evening (while we were eating the lights went out at the restaurant!). Then, we drove around town since there was so much to do at home! Haha! Let me tell you, in some places it looks like a tornado has come through! There are power lines and trees down everywhere as well as trees on cars! It looks bad.
For now we are still warm! I am in furry boots and still have my coat on! My mom and I are playing Phase 10 via candle light! It is actually not that bad! We are having fun just talking and playing!

Please keep all the electric company workers in your thoughts and prayers tonight. They have a lot of hard, dangerous hours of work ahead of them. Also, keep the elderly who are in the cold and dark in your prayers, too. I will keep you updated as often as we can (and as long as my blackberry stays on)! Hope you all are staying warm!!
P.S. Thanks to all of you who left comments on my first post! It was nice to "meet" you all! I look forward to following your blogs as well!

I Finally Caved!

I broke down and decided to join the "blog world!" With the help of my lovely sister, Jennifer, I did it! Yay! I have to admit I have been following a lot of blogs here lately, and to be quite honest, I am addicted! I am in no way an exciting person, I am quite boring, but I will do my best to make my not so interesting life seem interesting!

I work at an AT&T store and I must say I LOVE my job...most days anyway! I am also trying to graduate college, although I seem to be in no hurry what so ever! I am active in the college ministry at my church, which I love! I am addicted to retail therapy...big time! I shop a lot! Yes, I am going to see the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic! Last but certainly not least, I am an aunt to the world's sweetest, cutest, cuddliest, warmest, most precious baby boy ever, Brody! No, I am not partial! I love the little man so much! I often wonder what we used to talk about before Brody came along! He is the apple of his aunt Jilly's eyes!

So, did you have a good weekend? It was my sweet little mom's birthday on Saturday, so we had a little bash at Josh and Jennifer's house! It was a lot of fun! We had the best pizza from Mellow Mushroom, and the cutest cake from Rick's Bakery! One thing you will learn about my family is we love our Rick's Bakery cakes! They never fail on taste and appearance! Here are few pictures of the birthday girl! We love you, mom! I will do my best to post as often as I can! Hope you enjoy!
Mom and her ever so cute cake!

It was her first birthday as GiGi!
